Amazing Annatto
With the high cost of health care, more and more people are taking better care of themselves. So when you think about your heart, liver, brain, joints, and all those circulating fats, sugars, and cholesterol…think about the trillions of cells that make up you! And when you think about your cells, think about antioxidants, which are so important for cell health. And when you think about those important antioxidants, think about delta- and gamma- tocotrienols – the two most potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory molecules in the vitamin E family.
-For each condition listed, the dose of Annatto Pro 125 is listed next to it:
•Inflammation: 2 softgels

Grilled Garden Veggies
2 Tbsp olive oil, divided
2 small yellow squash, sliced
1 small onion, chopped
½ # medium fresh mushrooms, quartered
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 large tomato, sliced
1 tsp dried rosemary, crushed, divided
¾ tsp salt
2 small zucchini, sliced
¼ tsp pepper
Drizzle 1 Tbsp oil over a double thickness of heavy-duty foil (about 24”x12”). Combine the onion, garlic, and ½ tsp rosemary; spoon over foil. Top with zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms, and tomato; drizzle with the remaining oil. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and remaining rosemary.
Fold foil around vegetables and seal tightly. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 15-20 minutes or until tender. Open the foil carefully to allow steam to escape.
4 Cancer-Fighting Strategies
1. Say yes to soy. Studies have shown that the flavonoids in plants like soy can alter certain aspects of cells related to tumor growth. Isoflavones- the predominant flavonoid in soy foods- may protect against hormone-related cancers.
2. Eat Red – and Purple. The antioxidant that gives many jewel-toned fruits and veggies their bright reds, blues, and purples may also have anti-cancer properties. Called anthocyanins, these compounds are most abundant in produce like berries, red and purple grapes, red cabbage, and eggplant.
3. Muscle Up. Cardiovascular exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of many chronic conditions, including cancer. There’s evidence that strength training can be a powerful adjunct therapy in treatment of cancer.
4. Ramp up the Roughage. Fiber-rich food like whole grains, fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts, and seeds may protect against cancer by leveling post-meal blood glucose spikes and improving insulin sensitivity.
Veggie Tales
-Eat the rainbow. Different colors mean different nutrients, each with their own perks. Carrots are bright orange thanks to alpha and beta carotene, which may help defend against some cancers. White veggies like button mushrooms can help feed the good bacteria in your gut, and cauliflower may have anti-cancer properties.
-Potatoes are not fattening, but keep portions (and toppings) sane.
-“Lite” salad dressing is NOT healthier. Your body needs the fat in regular dressing to absorb many of the nutrients in veggies, like lutein, lycopene, and beta carotene.
Bloodwork Analysis
A typical annual blood test administered in clinical settings is designed to identify disease and confirm health status, but retesting at regular intervals of 3-6 months ensures the body’s need are continuously understood and appropriately supported.
Key distinctions of performance bloodwork analysis:
-Expanded biomarker panels, including markers for hormonal health (testosterone, cortisol), inflammation (hs-CRP), nutrient status (vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids), and organ function (liver enzymes, kidney filtration rates).
-Refined reference ranges, with performance-based interpretation to compare results based on scientific literature instead of those based on normal “health” ranges.
-Systems-level analysis.
-Build performance from the inside out, the product of complex biological systems working together in harmony. A breakdown in one system can result in compromise of cognitive and physical performance.
-The importance of continued monitoring, as people are constantly responding to the demands of the daily lives. The responses from these demands are reflected in an individual’s unique physiology.
-Bring it all together: Performance is the result of physiology, so optimal performance requires optimized physiology.

The Conversation
Added sugar still has detrimental associations with epigenetic (= how environment and behavior change the way your genes work without changing DNA) age. Similarly, despite higher added sugar intake, healthier dietary intakes appear to remain generally associated with younger epigenetic age. Everyone’s epigenetic clock is ticking. We have the power to speed it up or slow it down. In many cases, our eating habits are based on what we’re taught. The gains from eating a Mediterranean diet could be offset by consuming 31 grams of added sugar. To increase their epigenetic health, individuals need to both optimize the nutrient intake in their diets while reducing their sugar as much as possible. www.drproechel.com
